Dear Friends and Supporters,
It has been a couple of months now since our last newsletter and much has happened. Our house parents, Albert and Natasha, have been slowly settling in – and deserve a giant reward, along with the other volunteers, for keeping the children occupied, entertained, and alive through the [long] Christmas holidays. The kids had great opportunity to visit the Barnyard, the Science Centre, to go to the beach and even to see helicopters with Albert and Natasha. We would like to thank all of you who have helped out over the last few months with your time and energy, for those who have so generously supported uThando
leNkosi financially, for the many who bought food and gifts over Christmas and for the ongoing prayer support. We also want to thank Bosasa for their ongoing maintenance and grocery support and Genevieve for all her energy and service in supporting the House Parents on a day-to-day basis.
New Staff
Sadly, at the end of December we had to give Sheralyn back to her husband…our loss is Jubilee Community Church’s huge gain as Sammy and Sheralyn step into the role of Student Pastors. We are so grateful for the immense work Sheralyn put in to the House, ironing out problems, setting up more efficient systems, getting our volunteer base established and helping to orientate the House Parents. She remains a crucial part of the team in her capacity as a Trustee.
Two fantastic women have come on board the team to fill Sheralyn’s shoes. Babalwa Nyangeni has been a volunteer at the House for over a year, and has just been employed as our General Manager. Joining her is Tracy Brink who is taking care of the social work side of things.
In addition, the House has been blessed with fantastic Relief Parents, Nicholas and Rutendo Matambo. This dedicated couple come in to the House and take on the full responsibilities of House Parents when Albert and Natasha take their time off or are on leave. It is a huge commitment and we would like to honour them for their faithfulness.
Praise and Prayer Points
1. Kids: The kids are back at school. Please pray for them to settle and adjust well, as well as for their progress and productivity academically. They are a bit behind, so let’s pray that they will catch up and develop in necessary areas.
2. We have become involved in the care of a 15year old girl who comes and visits the House occasionally. She is pregnant and we help with getting her to doctors and other appointments. Please pray into her living situation that God will protect her and her unborn baby and give her wisdom to make decisions that are what’s best for her and her baby.
3. Staff: Please continue to pray for staff morale, work ethic, productivity, faithfulness and spiritual growth. We have a new staff team working together and we need prayer that we may work well together and grow in the conviction of the Lord calling us to be here and to do good work.
4. Volunteers: We have very few volunteers but they are great quality and we are grateful for each one. We pray for more people whom the Lord wants to be involved to be moved by His call and to join us and build a strong team.
We look so forward to hearing from you and being able to share more of what God is doing. Drop us an email, visit our Facebook group (The House – uThando leNkosi), or stop by the office for a cup of coffee and chat.
